Simple Steps YOU Can Take to Improve the Air YOU Breathe

#1 Drive less! There are numerous other ways to get from point A to point B rather than emptying your wallet, first of all, and destroying the atmosphere with pollution. As an added bonus, most of these also help keep that tummy flat! Try walking, biking, skateboarding, public transportation, carpooling. . .

#2 Save energy around your house! Every time you flip a switch, energy is being used– and most of the time that leads to the burning of fossil fuels. So when you’re not in the room, turn off the lights. Switch to LED or compact florescent bulbs. If you’re going to be out all day, turn the thermostat up a couple degrees in the summer, and down a few in winter. And no more ridiculously pointless electronics! Recycle as much as possible, and only wash your clothes in cold or warm water. You can even find low VOC or water-based paint, stains, and finishes for your furniture.

#3 Think green while shopping! Buying appliances that are Energy Star stamped can help save you money as well as help the environment. Use a canvas, reusable bag when shopping, and try to choose products that have less packaging and are made from recyclable materials. Replace your gas-powered lawn mowers, leaf-blowers, etc with electric ones, and replace traditional batteries with rechargeable ones.

These are all simple choices you can make every day that can help reduce air pollution, and this is just a small list. There are many, many more things you can do if you take the time to research. Just google ways to reduce air pollution! Some may think that their small contribution won’t make a difference in the long run, but if everyone can make these simple changes, (which most of the time can also end up saving you a few bucks!) the quality of the air we breathe and the potential we give to our future kids can definitely be impacted. It’s time to wake up and make a change.
